In this era, keeping in constant touch is so important. We always need to know the latest news and we also want to share our experiences as soon as they happen, no matter where we are in the world. Therefore, having internet connection wherever we go is one of the things we worry about when we travel almost as much as accommodation. For the occasional vacation, one may be able to afford to splurge on expensive international roaming charges but it would incur great costs for a frequent flyer.

Luckily, there are companies now that offer cheap portable WiFi hotspots that you can being overseas. They often charge a flat rate by the day with a generous amount of data allowance. The little pocket sized devices can be delivered to you within a few days of ordering them. If they were rented, a return address will be provided so you can conveniently return the hotspot device once you come home from your travels. There are many companies that offer such services, each with their own strengths.

Skyroam is one of the companies that offer rental of portable WiFi hotspots. They have an option of rental where they charge $9.95 each day for a one-off travel. For one living a more nomadic life, they have the choice to purchase the device and own it for life. The device costs $79.99 and the charges for usage is $8.00 per day if you own the device. Skyroam does not have a daily cap on data usage, and access is fast, easy, and secure. It also has coverage in more than 100 countries around the world which makes it a convenient choice for when you’re traveling the world.

teppyAnother portable WiFi service company is Tep Wireless. Their little device is called Teppy, and it boasts a long battery life of up to 8 hours when in use. You can connect up to five devices to Teppy at once and it has a hotspot radius of 15 meters. To make the network personal, you can set up your own network using Teppy and secure it with a password. Teppy is available for rent with convenient delivery and return. Tep Wireless charges a rate of $9.95 a day for using Teppy without any limits or daily caps.
XCom also offers a similar service. Unlike the other two, XCom does implement additional charges if you are traveling to more than two countries. The base price for XCom’s services is $7.77 per day. Upon traveling to your third country, there is an extra $30 charge for each new country you enter. However, there is a maximum charge and after the fifth country, they do not have surcharges for subsequent countries. XCom offers some potentially useful add-ons that you can rent alongside their device like insurance, portable battery packs, or an extra battery for the device. Another difference between XCom and the aforementioned companies is that XCom does have a limit to the data usage but they would not charge extra for it.
