Far’N Away; How i became a tour operator.
We began exploring in Europe some years back doing solo travel stuff and tours too. After The first week spent in England, I knew exactly I what wanted to do. Today I’m so very proud and excited to say that, now, that goal is being achieved.
This past fall my wife and myself were in Germany
and met a friend who’s been living there, touring around Europe in a psychedelic rock & Roll band. We walked the back streets outside of the city center looking at the old buildings and cobbled streets, and I listened as Thaddeus explained how for years this region was fought over due to its strategic location, about all the different dialects in the German language and how you can tell who comes from where just by listening to them speak, I looked as he showed us the markers from the various times Passau had flooded and it struck me that this day, simply spent hanging out with a friend was also a fantastic guided walking tour.
While other tours were all wandering around jockeying for position to view an undoubtably beautiful church, we were exploring a much more authentic side of life in Passau.
After weeks of exploring around Europe we returned home and as always the longing to be back out there returned.
Fast forward some months; A friend in the travel industry had seen an itinerary that I had drawn up to lead a small group around England in the spring of 2017 and suggested that I expand to leading tours a bit more regularly. My love for tour planning & logistics took over and before
I knew what was happening I had a full England tour planned and was on the phone skyping with my friend Thaddeus from Germany, explaining that his casual and completely unintentional guiding skills won me over and that together with my wife, the three of us could share our travel experience, our travel style, and our over all love for knowledge and adventure with the world first hand, a few people at a time! From there we began organizing plans for an alternative style tour operation service.
Today I sit here excitedly tapping away at my keyboard, remembering how many people have talked, even gushed, to me about their bucket list vacations, or their dreams to visit ancient places like Stonehenge or the Parthenon in Greece or to see the city lights of Paris.
The joy and excitement they share with me when they explain how they’ve always wanted to, but for so many reasons hadn’t gone yet, but one day!
I talk about these places with people and I urge them to go; to take the chance and travel, even just once. For me, it was the most eye opening and liberating experience of all. Today I’m happy, I’m happy because I’m here now to help others find that same thrill and liberation!
Let’s go explore!
